Fellowship Opportunities

Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program
Eighteen Fellows will be chosen to serve in the Capitol offices of Assembly Members. Fellows perform a variety of tasks in different issue areas. Some of these legislative tasks may include, but are not limited to, drafting and staffing legislation, writing committee analysis, drafting responses to constituent letters, writing speeches, meeting with constituents, speaking to school groups, preparing committee briefs, tracking bills, or researching policy issues.

California Senate Fellows Program
Eighteen California Senate Fellows will be selected to serve as full-time Senate staff for 11 months beginning in October 2004. Fellows are assigned to the personal or committee office of a Senator and work as a part of the public policy staff team in the Capitol. Responsibilities include helping develop legislative proposals, researching and analyzing bills, responding to constituent inquiries, and writing press releases and speeches.

State of California Executive Fellowship Program
This program's goal is to extend knowledge of policy issues and policy-making, and to prepare future professionals and public leaders through a combination of experiential and academic education. Fellows are placed in offices throughout the executive branch. Participants gain firsthand experience in many aspects of governmental operations, including policy development and implementation, executive-legislative relations, budget preparation and coordination among the various executive-branch agencies.

Judicial Administration Fellowship Program
Ten fellows are accepted into the 11-month program which begins in September. The fellowship program is both academic and professional. Upon acceptance into the program, fellows will be enrolled as graduate students in Public Administration at Sacramento State, and attend regularly scheduled academic seminars. Fellows serve as full time professional staff in Judicial branch offices.  Field assignments will include the Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles offices of the Administrative Office of the Courts, the Judicial Council Office of Governmental Affairs, and county appellate or trial courts.

UCSD Academic Internship Program
The Academic Internship Program is a valuable form of professional training which provides students with the opportunity to test their career interests in an off campus setting.
